Confluent Medical Technologies has expanded its metal manufacturing capabilities to include cobalt-chromium (CoCr) components, enabling the medical device maker to produce full balloon expandable stent assemblies.
“We’re very excited to offer this new capability,” said Confluent Medical’s President & CEO, Dean Schauer. “We’re looking to partner with customers interested in developing the finest balloon expandable stents and other cobalt-chrome medical devices.”
By leveraging its expertise in balloon catheter, polymer, and now CoCr development at its multiple manufacturing sites, Confluent Medical can now offer a full suite of balloon expandable stents, which can be used in applications ranging from valve replacement to renal fenestration.
By designing the stent in conjunction with the balloon delivery system, Confluent Medical can optimize performance better than if the components were made by different manufacturers. “We are a single-source supplier and can optimize critical performance of our medical devices,” Schauer noted. “From prototype through finished device manufacturing, we can do it all.”
Cobalt-chromium, or CoCr, is a metal alloy of cobalt and chromium. CoCr is widely used in the manufacture of stents and other surgical implants because of its strength, corrosion resistance, and excellent biocompatibility with blood and soft tissues.
